Something New Penny Black Saturday Challenge Card

Greetings my lovelies!  Happy Saturday!  Today I have a card for the Penny Black Saturday Challenge.  The theme is always 'Anything Goes,' and today's optional extra is 'Something New.'  My 'something new' is a new-to-me technique.
I used the Penny Black stencil Flower Dance, and the verse is from the PB clear set Faith 30-409.
The background stamps are older PB stamps from my stash.

My something new is a new-to-me technique.  Actually, a different twist on a technique I saw on Kathy Racoosin's blog, The Daily Marker.

Kathy does fantastic things with colored pencils after stamping and/or stenciling.   I kept mine a little simpler by using limited colors, and only a very light layer of antique linen distress ink.  Then I went directly to colored pencils, instead of more ink colors.   I created the flowers by stenciling them on a light blue panel with antique linen distress ink.  This is just to get the shapes down.  This differs from Kathy's technique somewhat, but hers is what inspired mine.

I used Polychromos colored pencils to color over the stenciled images, adding highlights and shading as I deemed appropriate.  I added some background second and third generation stamping, and some distressing along the edges.

I really love this technique, and will be using it a lot.  Thanks, Kathy, for always giving us fun, fresh, and exciting ideas!

Inside:
Thanks so much for visiting today.  I hope to see you in the Penny Black Saturday Challenge!  You have until January 31st to show us your 'something new.'  You just might win a prize!!

Thank you for visiting today.  I am off today with my hubby to meet our potential adoptee....a little calico rescue kitty.  I'm trying not to get too excited and get my hopes up.  A few people are interested in her, so we all go today to meet kitty.  The foster mom will pick one of us (by Tuesday) to take kitty and be her new people.  Fingers and toes crossed, and prayers for the right decision.

I am adding my card to these other challenges:
Allsorts Challenge  - More than a single word sentiment
Penny Black At Allsorts - Make it feminine
Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge - Use a stencil
Simply Less Is More - One layer off center
Paper Funday Challenge  - Anything goes friendship twist
Time Out Challenges  - Item in your wardrobe (blue floral dress)

Enjoy your weekend!

Blessings,

  3. This is a stunning card. The technique used really intrigues me as I love working with my polychromos. There probably isn't quite enough 'white space' for this card to be considered CAS but it has certainly inspired me to try your technique. Thanks so much for playing along at Less is More! xx

Fabulous colouring and do like the fact that these seem to hug this lovely and true sentiment. Thanks for joining Time Out-and bet that floral dress is a joy to wear!

  8. Hi Lynda

What a fabulous technique .. .. loving the finished look.

    A really beautiful card.

I hope you were successful with the kitten. My eldest son and his wife have just adopted two black kittens from a local charity in London. They have had them a week now and they seem to be settling down well.
