Last night I wrote my blog post for the Old Is New Challenge, and it posted this morning. I promised two more cards using the same stamp with different looks and techniques. It was late, and I needed my much needed beauty rest, so here are the other two cards. This is a long post, so if you want to just see the cards without my directions or the insides, just scroll to the bottom.
Card 1:
Impression-Obsession stamps:
CAC Fancy Leaves CC224
Little Things C20696
CAC Wooden Plank CC177
CAC French Text CC151
For the panel on my card, I used three of the Cover-A-Card stamps. These stamps are a must-have for me, and I am collecting them little by little. My all-time favorite takes center stage in this card, the CAC Fancy Leaves CC224.
To create the panel, I started with Strathmore smooth bristol. I wanted paper that would withstand some water, but didn't need watercolor paper, just a nice thick, sturdy white bristol. I started with two of the CAC stamps, CAC Wooden Plank CC177 and CAC French Text CC151. These two are must-haves in my collection. They're perfect for subtle backgrounds for my image stamps. I inked these stamps with old paper distress ink, and stamped them lightly onto the bristol.
When the understamping was dry, I added the CAC Fancy Leaves CC224. I inked the stamp in my Misti, using distress inks in greens. I used just a wee bit of water, just enough to activate the ink, but not so much that it leached outside of the borders of the images. I was going for a very controled watercolor look, as opposed to the fluid, soft painterly look that I used in my card from my previous post. I kept adding colors, blending with my finger where two colors met, until I achieved the depth of color I wanted. I used distress ink along the edges before adding it to my A2 green textured card front.
I cut some of the bristol paper to make a banner, distressed the edges, and stamped the Little Things C20696 verse with Ranger archival ink.
Inside of card...
For the inside, I distressed the edges of a white panel, and stamped the Fancy Leaves with a very light green ink, which I had inked and then 'stamped off' onto a scrap sheet of paper first, so I could achieve a very faint impression. I stamped one of the leaf bunches from the large stamp, colored it, and fussy-cut it to add to the bottom, then adhered the panel to the inside.
Card 2:
IO stamps:
CAC Fancy Leaves CC224
CAC Wooden Plank CC177
Believing D13761
Other: Strathmore smooth bristol, Polychromos colored pencils
On a square Strathmore smooth bristol panel, I stamperd the CAC Wooden Plank CC177 frayed burlap distress ink, slightly stamped off for a lighter effect. Then I stamped the CAC Fancy Leaves CC224 over that background, using a fairly light green distress ink. I used my Polychromos colored pencils to color, blend, and highlight each bunch of leaves. This was a very relaxing process, and I really enjoyed just coloring with my pencils.
I added the Believing D13761 verse on a panel which I had stamped a bit of the plank background, the stamped the verse with green distress ink. In retrospect, I should have used archival ink for the verse, because when I blended some antique linen ink over the verse to soften the white background, the ink blurred just slightly. But I decided to just roll with it.
On the inside, I just stamped the wooden plank background very lightly, giving a faint background for the giver to write a message.
So, that's it. I thank you for staying with me through this long post, and I appreciate your visits and comments.
