Color Challenge Card Number 28

Two more to go after today!  Here's card number 28 for the 30 Day Color Challenge on The Daily Marker blog....
I have to admit, I kind of cheated here.  I actually 'colored' the card during the summer.  It's a leaf that I found on the ground under a tree on one of our walks.  I put the leaf on a piece of card stock, and sprayed Adirondack Color Wash over it.  I mixed some Perfect Pearls in with the Color Wash to give it some shimmer.  When I picked up the leaf, this is what I found!

I made a bunch of these panels, using different leaves, and put them away for when I wanted to make a card.

I finished it off by layering, and adding ribbon and gold fiber.  I threaded some beads onto the fiber, and added the spiral clip for interest.

Thanks for stopping by.  See you tomorrow!

Color Challenge Card # 27

Here we are at day 27 of the 30 Day Color Challenge at The Daily Marker.  This card is also for the Penny Black Friends Saturday Challenge , where the theme is 'spring blooms.'
The stamp is from Penny Black.  I used Derwent Inktense watercolor pencils.  The Happy Birthday die is from Simon Says Stamp.  I used a glaze pen over it to dimensionalize it and give it shine.  The background is an embossing folder, and a punch along the right side.

Thanks for stopping by.

Spunky, Sassy Girl Stamps

I was going through some boxes of images I had stamped up...some go back a few years!  I am challenging myself to use them up.  I have been having fun pulling them out and coloring them, playing with different mediums.
I don't know who makes this stamp, but there are three or four of these sassy girls.  I love this one.....
In case you can't read the shopping bag, it says "put on your big girl panties and deal with it!"  Oh, how I'd love to have said that to certain people at times!

This is for The Color Throwdown Challenge #335 .  The colors are muted red, light green, and light yellow.  The colors are generic, and you can use any hues and add neutrals if you wish.

Also, for the 30 Day Color Challenge at The Daily Marker blog.  We are on day 26!  Four to go!  If you want to see my other 25 entries so far, just scroll down through the blog.

The image had been embossed in black sparkle embossing powder.  I used Tim Holtz distress inks, rubbed them on a palette, and used them as watercolor,  applying them with a brush. I decided to get more of the colors on the image by striping the dress.  She is tall and skinny enough to pull off sideways stripes!  I used the smoosh technique for the background, using these same colors (a link to the technique is in my Everything Beautiful Card post on March 25th).

I am not a fan of using sequins on cards, but this one just screamed for them!  They add just the right punch, don't you think?

That's it for today.  Thanks for stopping by.

lynda

Color Challenge Day 25 Card

I decided to go with colored pencils today for the 30 Day Color Challenge on The Daily Marker .  I use Berol Prismacolor pencils, because they have a really nice lead that lays down beautifully.  Also, they have a nice range of colors.

These stamps are from my older collections.  I believe they are from Ann-ticipations.  I love how cute these little mice are.
I hope you are enjoying your weekend.  It was a cold day here, but there is a promise of warmer weather, more spring-like, in the forecast for next week!

Five more days of the color challenge to go!  This will be a busy week, with it being Holy Week, and getting things ready for Easter.  I may have to make an extra card for a couple of days, and then just have to post it on the appropriate day, especially for Thursday and Friday, as we will be at church for a while on those days.  And I've got some breads to make and cooking to do.  And two very special Easter baskets for two VERY special little girls!

Thanks for stopping by.

Faux Glazed Glass Card

OK, so it's back to the flowers, and the watercolor.  BUT, a new technique.  I fell in love with this faux glazed glass technique that I saw on a video by Sandy Allnock on her blog.  I made this card for the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge (Anything Goes), and the 30 Day Color Challenge at The Daily Marker .  The picture does not show how shimmery this background is.  I have some close-ups below.

I used the technique on the background.  I loved it, and hated to cover it up, but it was the perfect backdrop for the flowers (stamps by Altenew).  For the flowers, which are a set from Altenew, I brushed Twinkling H2O's onto cardstock in shades of gold.  When dry, I embossed the flowers and leaves, and cut them out.

The background is a combination of watercolor and gold Twinkling H2O's. You can see Sandy's technique on her blog here: http://sandyallnock.com/faux-glazed-glass-background-technique/ .

Here are a couple of close-ups of the background and flowers...

They don't really do it justice, but you can get an idea of the marbled look and catch some of the gold highlights.

Thanks so much for stopping by.

Day 23 Color Challenge Card

I decided to break away from the flowers for this card, for day 23 of the 30 Day Color Challenge at The Daily Marker .....
I kept this really simple.  Just stamped the scenes, and a little light watercoloring, some layering, and that's that for tonight.  Off to dreamland now.  Thanks for stopping by.

Everything Beautiful Card

I had a small piece of watercolor paper left from another project, and while I had my distress inks out I created this watercolor background.  You can find a tutorial HERE for this technique on the Papertrey Ink blog in a video tutorial by Nichole Heady.

The stamp is from Our Daily Bread Designs.  I used a Cuttlebug embossing folder, and Cherry Lynn butterfly die, and Spellbinders Swirl die.

I have entered it in the following challenges:
Our Daily Bread Designs Easter/Spring Religious Inspiration challenge HERE
and
The Daily Marker 30 Day Color Challenge HERE .

He has, indeed, made everything beautiful.  Let us rejoice and be glad!

Day 21 Color Challenge Card and Magenta Challenge

Just a quick post to get this up before bed.  I used colored pencil on this Magenta stamp.  The background was done with distress inks and watercolor.  I am entering this card in the Defi/Challenge Magenta , where the theme is Nature.  It is also card 21 of the 30 Day Color Challenge at The Daily Marker.
Thanks for visiting.  See you tomorrow!

Day 20 Color Challenge Card

It's Day 20 of The Daily Marker 30 Day Color Challenge .  I decided to break away from the watercolor for a bit.  When I was rearranging and reorganizing my craft room over the weekend, I realized how many stamping supplies I have not used in, well, let's just say it's been a while.  I always use the same mediums (usually watercolor and distress inks, and watercolor pencils).  I decided to challenge myself to use some of my other supplies.
Today I used my ColorBox chalk ink pads.  I'd forgotten how much fun these are to use, and the many techniques they lend themselves to.  For this card, I inked the stamp with yellows, oranges, and pinks and stamped onto a white panel.  I added glitter to the petals of the tulips.  I used the Lawn Fawn thanks die.  To give it dimension, I cut five of them and glued them together.  To give it some sparkle, I added glitter.  I adhered it to the card with glue dots.

The stamp is an old JudiKins stamp I have.  I love these stamps that have a solid background with the design etched out.

A special thank you for a special friend.

Blessings,

Day 19 Card for Color Challenge

My "coloring" today was done with bleach in a water brush.  I black embossed the stamp onto burgundy card stock.  I painted the flowers down the center of the image with bleach.  In a couple of minutes, Voila!  The bleach turned the burgundy flowers a light tan color.  Some layering, a ribbon, and done.

See you tomorrow with Day 20!

Blessings,

Day 18 Color Challenge

Here we are at Day 18 of the 30 Day Color Challenge at The Daily Marker .  We are well over the half way mark now.  I decided to change my medium for this card, and played a little with my Perfect Pearls.  The picture doesn't show the shimmer of the flowers very well, but they are shimmering in all their glory.  The colors of the papers and the ribbon didn't photograph well.  They actually do look great together in real life.  Really.

I am also submitting this to the Mojo Monday Blog Sketch Challenge # 389.  Here is the sketch for the challenge...
I spent much of today reorganizing my craft room.  I can tell it's spring...I  want to get things organized and cleaned.  I think I feel a surge of spring cleaning coming on.

Hope you are enjoying your weekend.

Blessings,

Day 17 Color Challenge Card

Here we are at Day 17 of the My Daily Marker 30 Day Color Challenge.  Another watercolor background using my Tim Holtz distress inks on wet watercolor paper.  I am seeing a pattern here...better pull out my markers or colored pencils, or any other medium for a while!  Anyways, here is card # 17....
Makes me pine for my garden.  Soon, soon, so I keep telling myself.
Happy first day of spring!!

Color Challenge Card Number Sixteen

Here we are at Day 16 of the My Daily Marker 30 Day Color Challenge.  I decided to do another watercolor card.
I used the smooshing technique for the background.  The flower stamp is Magenta, the phrase Verve, and the background swirls are Penny Black.  I used distress inks.  The watercolor paper I used has a deep, large texture.  I love the way it makes the edges of the images kind of wonky.
I am entering this card in the Casology blossom challenge HERE and the Defi/Challenge Magenta HERE .
Thanks for stopping by.  I will be back tomorrow with card number 17.

Spring Flowers - Color Challenge Number Fifteen

Day 15 of the My Daily Marker 30 Day Color Challenge .  Wow, these days are just flying by!  We're half way through already.
I chose Penny Black flowers and background stamps for my card today.  I used the tape and watercolor technique for the background.  You can check out how to do this in a wonderful video by Jill Foster on the Penny Black blog HERE .  I know I will be doing this technique a lot!

I am also entering this in the Paper Players Ann's clean and simple floral challenge HERE , and the Penny Black Saturday Challenge, spring blooms, HERE .

If you want to see yesterday's challenge piece, please visit my other blog www.TangledInTheWord.blogspot.com .  I colored a Zentangle for the challenge yesterday, for St. Patrick's Day.

30 Day Color Challenge - Day Ten

Seems as though I can't stop stamping and coloring flowers!  This one is for Day Ten of the 30 Day Coloring Challenge on The Daily Marker .
The coloring on this card was done on the stamp with Distress markers, then spritzed with water and stamped onto the card panel.

Our card ministry group meets tomorrow to make cards for the church card rack, and to send to shut-ins.  I will be doing lots of coloring all day tomorrow!  It's always fun to stamp and play with other stampers.  A great way to spend the day!

Thanks so much for stopping by today.  See you tomorrow with card number 11!
Blessings,

Color Challenge Day Nine - Flowers

Nine down, 21 to go!  Here's my flower card for the 30 Day Coloring Challenge on The Daily Marker .  I used a JustRite poppy stamp, and a Spellbinders die.  The phrase is from a Flourishes clear stamp set.  I used Distress inks and a Dove Blender to color the poppies.

I love poppies....they're such a happy flower.  Daisies are my favorites, closely followed by poppies.  Both are happy flowers that make me smile!  They're unpretentious, free flowing, simple, and strong.
Can you tell I'm getting just a little eager to be in my garden, planting and pruning, weeding, and sitting under the big tree with a big glass of lemonade, a good book, or my journal, and the neighbor's kitty on my lap?  Yep, that's where I just went in my mind.  Coming back to reality now, grudgingly!
I really had fun with this card.  Hope you are having fun, and keeping warm.
See you tomorrow with # 10!
Blessings,
     lynda

Color Challenge Number Eight

For the Color Challenge Number Eight on the The Daily Marker blog, I decided to play with my colored pencils again.  I love, love, love colored pencils.  I had drawn this picture a while ago, and decided to color it.  I think maybe I will try some more drawing again.  This kind of got me in the mood.

Color Challenge Seven

I'm sticking with my spring images with this card for the Color Challenge Day Seven on The Daily Marker blog HERE .  Purple and green is my favorite color combination.
It was a lovely morning.  Prayer Shawl group , then to lunch with a friend.  Tonight is the last night of our church's Lenten Retreat.  The weeks of lent are flying by this year!  It seems as though Easter can't come soon enough after the long, hard, cold winter.
Well, off to work on my other blog.  Enjoy your day, and thanks for stopping by!

Color Challenge Number Six

Here's my card for Color Challenge Six on The Daily Marker blog HERE .  I used Art Impression stamps to build the background, with Marvy Matchables inks and markers.
I have been enjoying coloring something every day.  It keeps me thinking spring!  The birds were chirping outside our bedroom window this morning....first time in at least four months.  This is a good sign!  Today we had 40 degrees...a heat wave in comparison to the past couple of months!
Thanks for stopping by.  See you tomorrow with Challenge Seven!
Blessings,

Color Challenge Day Five

Day five of the 30 Day Color Challenge at My Daily Marker here .  I had fun drawing and coloring these mushrooms.  I threw in a little Zentangle for interest.  Watercolored with Distress inks and waterbrush.  I'm not really fond of my printing, but trying to get past that.  I need to spend some time developing my lettering skills.
Hubby and I returned late this afternoon from the weekend in Buffalo celebrating my birthday with the kids.  Then I was off to a retreat at church, now getting this up on the blog, then off to bed.
See you tomorrow with Day Six!
Blessings,

I had some fun with this Magenta stamp and watercolor from my distress inks.  Simple and fun.

Spring Card!

The first day of spring is actually less than three weeks away!  Hooray.  Perhaps a colorful spring card will help make the wait a little more tolerable. So, I pulled out my Penny Black butterfly stamp, my favorite set of Verve stamps, my embossing powder, and my distress inks.
This card is for the following challenges:
The Daily Marker for their Coloring Challenge HERE .  They are hosting a challenge to color something every day for a month.  There are demos, prizes, and lots of fun.  Be sure to check it out.
Mojo Monday Sketch Challenge for their sketch challenge HERE .
Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge HERE  where the theme is Girly/Feminine.

Stop by these blogs and check out the entries....and maybe even make a card and play along.

On a personal note, I have started another blog, Tangled In The Word , where I blog about Zentangle and God's Word.  If you want, you can check it out HERE .  Please leave me a message to let me know you were there.  I'd love to hear from you.

Distress Ink on Embossing

I made this card for a friend who is in the hospital.  I gave it to her when I visited her this afternoon.  Since I had forgotten to take a picture of it before I put it in the envelope, I snapped a pic in her hospital room....hence the machine gadget in the background.

I used an embossing plate to emboss the owls on the branch.   The embossing plate is actually hers.  I used it to emboss a few pieces of card stock with the last time we were together.  I thought she would get a kick out of my making a card out of it.

I simply sponged distress inks over the embossing with my distress ink applicators.  Easy-Peasy.  This get well grouping is a single stamp (Sugarloaf See-D's).  The little circles are Stampendous silver stickers (Class Appeals), which I colored with my Copic markers (can't really tell in the picture).

That's it.  Fast and easy, and lots of fun to make.   I think I'll make some for the card ministry with the rest of the panels i embossed.  I'm on a roll now!

Be Blessed,
lynda
