Monarch Frame DIE864-YY
Butterfly Counts D1379
With yellow patterned paper, I created an A2 card. I embossed the Butterfly Counts verse onto the card front with black.
With another piece of the yellow patterned paper, I adhered a die cut Monarch Frame butterfly. I used a Tombow marker to color in the wing areas.
I used a VersaMark embossing pad over the entire Monarch Frame panel, making sure to really get enough ink onto the entire panel. I used clear embossing powder to emboss. This gave the image a very dramatic, glossy finish in real life. The photo really doesn't do it justice.
I adhered this with foam tape for added dimension.
Some black liquid enamel dots finish the embellishing.

Today I'm playing with color variations of coral, and my distress inks, in my studio. I'm crazy about this Technique Junkies butterfly, and fabulous Curved Bamboo background.

Big Butterfly
Wisdom of Oz
I embossed the Curved Bamboo background and the Big Butterfly onto white card stock, using Rose Gold embossing powder, one of my favorite ep's. For the background, I brushed distress inks onto the bamboo embossed panel.
I added a strip of rose gold washi tape along the left edge, and attached the panel to a white A2 card front with craft foam for dimension.
The embossing powder and the washi tape are very close in color in real life.
For the embossed butterfly, I used my ink blending tool to add distress inks in various shades of coral and pink, and used a tissue to wipe the excess from the embossing. I love the way the coral color plays nicely with the rose gold ep.
I added the butterfly to the bamboo panel with foam tape, slightly curving the wings. Some pearls from my stash, and some distress ink spatters finish off the front of my card.
For the inside, I stamped a portion of the bamboo, and the butterfly going off of the card.
I brushed ink to match, then added a stamped panel with the phrase from the Wisdom of Oz set. I used foam tape to attach the verse.
I also added a strip of washi tape to the inside, and wrapped it around to the back of the card, as I didn't want it as wide.
The washi tape gives the back of the card a nice look, also. Of course, I had to add some spatters inside, also.
I hope you are inspired by my card. I will be using that bamboo, and the butterfly, a lot. Especially since they emboss so well. I will use this card when someone needs encouragement. I think it would also make a great graduation or retirement card, or any life-changing event.

It was a cold, blustery day today. I thought about my garden, and sitting in my back yard paradise during the spring and summer months, and how much I miss that. So, I decided to do the next best thing, and play in my studio.
I've had this Big Butterfly stamp from Technique Junkies for a while, and decided today was the day she would fly.
On gray card stock, using my Misti and TH distress inks, I inked the Big Butterfly stamp with various shades of ink, and stamped it several times, until I achieved the color and intensity I wanted.
I used some distress gray ink to distress the edges, and create spatters on the card. For the strips on the right side of the card, I distressed a piece of the gray card stock with the same colors as the butterfly, then stamped the wing design onto it. The other strip is just dyed with a gray distress ink pad.
A few Studio Katia droplets finish off the card.

I tried to get the colors as close as I could. On my card they are slightly more muted than in the picture I took.

With all that's going on in the world, I wanted my art to make a statement. When I thought about what to make for The Daily Marker Color Challenge , I knew I wanted to use this awesome butterfly from Stampin' Up (called Swallowtail). As far as colors, I thought about yellows and oranges, then blues and greens. But as I thought about my desire for my art to be a vehicle for showing love and caring to the hurting people in the world, I knew exactly what I was going to do.
I used distress markers to 'paint' the butterfly, after I taped off a square so that only part of the butterfly would show. I used my Clarity brush to add the soft blue background. As I looked through my stash for a verse, I came across this oldie but goodie Mahatma Gandhi quote. I'm sorry, I do not know the company, as I had removed the stamp from the wood, and neglected to write it down. Urrrrgh.
I decided to let the art speak for itself, and kept it clean and simple. I know.....twice in ONE week. Not a small feat for me, who likes to embellish! I just layered the panel onto a card using craft foam to give it some dimension. That's it.
I hope you are staying cool today. I stayed in most of the day. This morning hubby and I went to the gym, then he had to pick up some items from Walmart to fix the toilet, so I wandered in with him. Surprise.....they have back to school stuff out already!!! Wow! I have to admit, though, when I see all those notebooks, markers and pens, journals, organizers, I salivate just a little. I used to love getting all new things for my daughter when she was little....especially new crayons. There's something about opening that new box of crayons and smelling that glorious color-fest of wax! Over the edge.
But, I digress.
