Live In Color!

Hello, and welcome.   The sun is shining, and in spite of it being a bit chilly, it's a beautiful day.  The orioles have been feeding furiously at their jelly feeder, and the hummingbirds are gradually coming back to their feeders.  Our walk on the river trail this morning was lovely.  We walked in concert with various birds calling, 'our' woodpecker tapping his tree, rushing water babbling through the curves and rocks, and other rustlings about us.  There is no melody quite like that of Mother Nature!

I thought I would celebrate this glorious day by making a card of rainbow cascading feathers.  The stamp is from the Technique Junkies May stamp release.

I started with white Strathmore bristol vellum card stock.  I love this paper for colored pencil work.  It has just the right amount of 'tooth.'  

I stamped the feathers using Tim Holtz distress ink in Antique Linen.  This ink works great for no-line coloring with colored pencil, markers, and watercolor.  It just fades into the medium you are using and leaves no lines!  

I used Polychromos, my go-to colored pencil of choice, to color the feathers.  I just took my time with this, going over the doodles lines within each feather.  It was soothing and meditative, so very relaxing.  These colored pencils stay nice and sharp, allowing me to get fine lines.  They also layer beautifully, allowing several layers of pigment without that waxy bloom I get with some other brands. 

When I had finished the colored pencil work, I used my Tim Holtz distress ink in colors of the feathers, to brush some color around each feather area.  Of course, I had to add spatters in the appropriate colors as well.  There is always room for spatters!

I used my Versafine Claire ink in 'nocturne' to stamp the verse.  The verse is actually attached to the feather stamp.  I simply cut it apart so that I could use each element alone.  I also cut the verse so that I could use it in two sections without having to do tedious masking.

INSIDE

I mounted the panel to a black A2 card front, and added some clear sequins and some colorful fibers from my stash.

For the inside, I brushed some color onto white card stock, and stamped the feathers with Tim Holtz distress ink  and stamped the verse, from the Sweet Fairy Tale Set of 5 set, with Versafine Claire ink.

Impression-Obsession Die Cut Obsession

Welcome to Die Cut Obsession at Impression-Obsession. My card today features one of the new dies from the Spring Die Release.

Dies/Stamps:
Poppy Frame DIE794-YY

For my card base, I used some white sparkly card stock from my stash to create a square card.  

I cut the Poppy Frame DIE794-YY die from the same card stock, and from a piece of card stock on which I had sponged some green and blue distress inks.

I adhered the Poppy Frame DIE794-YY die to a piece of white card stock, which I had run through my We R Memory Keepers quilted embossing folder.  I adhered the centers (negative portions) from the sparkly cut.  I adhered the panel to the card front, adding some black sparkly cardstock along the top and left edges.

I cut the Greeting Set DIE174-W die from black sparkly cardstock, and added it to the card, along with a strip of the background I had created with the green and blue inks, with the word 'birthday' from an old IO stamp set in my stash..

For the inside, I added strips of all the papers, and a partial die cut from vellum.

Graduation Joy

You Brighten My Day

Happy Saturday!  Hope you're enjoying your weekend so far.  Today I have a card for the Penny Black 'Make Your Own Background' challenge at the Penny Black Saturday Challenge blog.

Distress inks (background) 

On bristol smooth card stock, I stamped the Playful flowers image.  I used my Arteza Real Brush Markers to paint the flowers.  I love the way these markers blend and create highlights and shadows so easily.  I use the Arteza waterbrush to help lighten areas and create more highlights.  I have tried many waterbrushes, and I find these Arteza brushes work the best for me.  I can control the water so much easier than with others.  I have the set of 6, which has different sizes for different techniques.  I used the small one for the flowers, and the largest for the background.

When the flowers dried, I created the background with my waterbrush, wetting the entire area around the flowers, then applying the brush markers along the edge of the flower outlines, and pulling out the color with the waterbrush.

While that panel was drying, I created a background panel on bristol card stock, using distress inks.  I wet the entire panel, then added some of the distress inks to make a painterly background.  When that was dry, I stamped some older PB images with the same color ink.  I stamped the verse, then added the image panel with foam tape.  I mounted the image panel and the background panel onto purple mirror cardstock.

Technique Junkies May 2019 New Release

Welcome to the Technique Junkies May Stamp Release!

I have two cards for your inspiration today, and a card for the 'free with purchase' stamp.

Card 1:

On Arteza watercolor paper, I stamped the Zinnias With Monarch image with Nocturne VersaFine Claire ink, and watercolored it with Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolors.  I added some finishing touches of shading and highlights with colored pencil.

For the background, I added a wash of green and a bit of the purple, than added some spatters of purple.  I outlined the panel with a black marker, and foam mounted it to an A2 card front.

I stamped the verse from the Graduation Greetings set onto a cardstock scrap, layered and mounted it with foam tape to the front.  Some sequins finish the card front.







For the inside, I stamped the Seeds Of Today verse, and added one of the blossoms from the zinnias.

Because I Said So 

I stamped the background, Because I Said So,  onto pink cardstock, and adhered it to a gray A2 card front.  I added a gray satin ribbon to the panel before securing.

I colored The Happy Housewife with Tombow markers, fussy-cut her, and added her to the panel with foam tape.

 














For the inside, I colored and fussy cut the slippers and curlers and attached them to a panel of pink cardstock.

I created the background with the paper that comes with mailed packages.  I use it to line the box when I spray my Shimmering Mist sprays.  I added a bit more Shimmering Bliss, then wadded up the paper, opened it and wadded it again, then opened it.  When it was dry, I trimmed it and secured it to a cardstock panel, then to my card front.

Impression-Obsession Summer Release Celebration - Day 3

The minute I saw this bird in the branch, I knew I had to have it!  I have always had a 'thing' for flowers, and it seems I have also taken a liking to bird images.

I stamped the Bird In Tree image onto bristol vellum card stock, and colored it with Polychromos colored pencils.  I colored lightly and slowly, due to a broken wrist.  I had talked about this in my previous post here.  My coloring process and insights are explained in that post. 

I added some spatters of distress ink to the background, and then the 'with heartfelt sympathy' verse from the Life Stuff Sentiments stamp set.  A strip of patterned paper finish the image panel, which I had added to a green card front.


Inside:  I added a verse from the Sympathy Sentiments  set over a brushed distress ink background, along with some of the same pp and a strip of the same green as my base card.
