Purple Poppies

This stamp from The Ton has been waiting for me to give it some love.  I think I've just been intimidated by it, so I've been procrastinating!  So, today I put on my big girl panties and dealt with it.
Like most things I procrastinate about, it wasn't nearly as scary or difficult as I thought.  Actually, it is a fun stamp to color.  I chose my favorite color.  There's something about purple....it is regal, and at the same time unpretentious and fun.  And I love it with green.  It makes me smile.

The stamp is from The Ton, as I mentioned.  It is a clear set called Thoughtful Poppies

I embossed the stamp in white on some lavender card stock.  To color it, I used Tombow markers and a Dove blender.  I added white highlights with a Prismacolor colored pencil, and details with a white gel pen.

Some distress ink brushed around the edges of the panel softened it a bit.  I embossed the verse (from the same set) onto vellum, and attached it.  I layered the whole shebang onto a plum panel, then onto a white card.  A few white pearl sequins finish off the card.

I am entering my card in these challenges:

The Ton Challenge  - Cheers

Addicted To Stamps - Make Your Mark

Tuesday Throwdown - Favorite color (purple)

The Daily Marker 30 Day Color Challenge

I hope you are staying healthy and warm, wherever you are. Winter is cold, snowy, and long here in the northeast USA.  I'm so glad I have my craft room to hibernate in when I get tired of dealing with the snow.

Thanks so much for dropping by.  It is always great to hear from you.

Sending Love Bunny

Today was a whirlwind of card-making.  I finished my cards for some challenges, and finished my Design Team cards for Splitcoaststampers Dirty Dozen and the Technique Junkies February blog hop/new stamp release coming up on February 1st.

I made this card for the Impression-Obsession Challenge,'I Adore You.'
I used Impression-Obsession stamps Bailey Bunbun F19057 and Sending Love from the clear set Grunge Map CL671.

I started with a kraft card, and added a strip of black and white PP along the left edge (I distressed it with antique linen distress ink so it wasn't so white).  I used an old die from my stash (unknown) to cut hearts and added them to the card.

I colored the bunny with Polychromos colored pencils, and added her with foam tape for dimension.  I added the verse, which I cut from a heart for her to told on to.

Some white dots and a little distressing with seedless preserves ink along the card edges finish this off.

In addition to the Impression-Obsession  challenge, I am adding my card to:

Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge  - Layer it up

Allsorts Saturday Challenge  - Old favorites (bunny stamp and heart dies)

The Daily Marker 30 day color challenge

Thanks for stopping in today.  Hope you are having a fabulous weekend so far!

Life Is Like A Roller Coaster

I tried a fun technique today, called Spattered Ombre.  It's a fun, easy background technique, by Pat Huntoon.  I used it for the background of this card.....

The stamps are Beautiful Ride and Like A Roller Coaster by Technique Junkies.  I stamped the roller coaster onto a piece of white card stock, and used an Our Daily Bread Designs stitched circle die to cut it out.  I used my Clarity stencil brush to brush on distress inks in green and blue, then added some Spectrum Noir clear shimmer pen to the roller coaster.  It really shimmers and sparkles in real life.

For the background, I used Pat's Spattered Ombre watercolor technique.  I watercolored in ombre fashion a piece of watercolor paper, using Kuretake Gansai Tambi watercolors.  While still wet, I dropped spatters of rubbing alcohol onto the watercolor.  That created those fabulous white spots.  I added the Life is a beautiful ride verse, repeating it using my Misty to get it evenly spaced and straight.  You can see the technique tutorial for the Spattered Ombre background HERE.
It's a fun technique, and I will definitely be making more of these backgrounds in different colors!

There is a new challenge on the Technique Junkies blog HERE to use this technique.  You can enter anytime before February 12th for a chance to win a $25 store credit towards TJ stamps!

If you want to save 10%, use code TJ10Lynda at Technique Junkies.

Cup of Flowers

Power Poppy teamed with Page Maps for their challenge this month.  I thought I would give it a try.  Here's my card....
I used Power Poppy's Everything's Rosy digital stamp set for the image, and a stamp from the Dynamic Duos Peonies & Tulips clear stamp set for the verse.

I printed the image onto white card stock.  I used my Faber-
Castell Polychromos colored pencils to color the image, and added the yellow haze around it with colored pencil.  I did go over the lines of the drawing with a Micron pen afterwards, as the colored pencil tends to dull the lines.  Here is a close-up of the coloring....

I used a die from the Spellbinders A2 Valiant Honor Card Creator die set for the image.  For the accent pieces along the sides of the panel the image is on, I used Lawn Fawn's Stitched Scalloped Borders, and Die-namics Blueprints 5 for the purple one.  The verse is on a die I had in my stash, already cut.  I do not know what it is.

I layered patterned papers onto a 5 x 6 1/2" card base, then used foam tape to adhere the image panel.

I am not a fan of patterned papers.  I rarely use them in my stamping.  I have tons of it, as I used it when I did a lot more scrapbooking.  For my cards, I really don't use it much.  So, I'm a little out of my comfort zone here.

The Power Poppy Challenge  (Power and Spark) is to use a Page Map with their stamps to create a card.
Here is the Page Map I chose....
As you can see, I used the sketch vertically instead of horizontally.  Other than that, I pretty much followed it.

I am also using their Hues to Use inspiration photo for my card....
I really wasn't so sure about the color combo, but kind of like it now that I used it.

That's what I love about challenges.  The challenge to try something you wouldn't probably do otherwise.  It's so easy to get stuck in a rut and do the same thing all the time.  Who knows, I may even start using some of my reams and reams of patterned paper more now!

I am also adding my card to the Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge - Use patterned paper!

And, of course, I will send it along to The Daily Marker  for the 30 Day Color Challenge there.

Thanks so much for stopping by.  I hope you're having a great day.

Be blessed,

Birthday Berries

Good morning, peeps!  It's a lovely, sunny day, albeit frigid!  Church was a bit sparse this morning.  I suspect many people didn't want to brave the cold.  The sunshine this morning gave me a much needed boost.  I came home and immediately got into my 'comfy, not for public' clothes.  Short of pj's, there's nothing better.

So, first things first, I wanted to get this blog post done, then it's up to my art studio to create some more.  Today's card features an awesome stamp from Penny Black.  Actually two stamps:  berry kissed 40-492, and special thoughts clear set 30-338.
I used my Misti and some Strathmore bristol smooth paper to stamp and watercolor the berry branch.  My technique is to ink the stamp in my Misti with a very light color.  Usually I use antique linen in the Tim Holtz distress inks.  Next, I use distress mini ink pads and/or markers to 'ink' up the various areas.  After inking, I use a watercolor brush and a little water to paint the areas, and add details and highlights.  I repeat stamping and watercoloring several times until I get the look I'm going for.

When dry, I use my Faber Castell polychromos colored pencils to add the final details, such as deep shadows and stronger highlights.

The spatters are made with FineTec gold paints, flicked on with a brush.  The verse is embossed with Ranger gold embossing powder, as is the panel along the left edge.
Here's a close-up of the spatters and coloring details....
Challenges:

Penny Black At Allsorts  - Something new (berry stamp)

Penny Black Saturday Challenge  - Anything goes!

Allsorts Challenge - No patterned papers

Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge - Winter blues

I hope you are able to relax today, and spend some quiet time, reading or doing what you love.  Or go out and enjoy the sunshine.  Whatever your 'thing' is, make some time to refresh your spirit.

Blessings,

In The Mood For Valentine's Cards!

What could be better than pink and red on a cold, snowy, blustery day?  OK....maybe wine, a box of chocolates, a good book, and a nice comfy corner of the couch with a thick, warm blankie.  Now....back to reality (at least for the moment - the wine, etc. thing is not off the table for later). I thought I'd get some of my Valentine's Day cards done.

Stamp:  Magenta (Flowers & Hearts 30.019.N)
Dies:  Impression-Obsession (Square Shaker Frame Die)
         Spellbinders (Die D-Lites Love You)

I embossed the stamp with white embossing powder, then watercolored the images with distress inks. A little layering, and some crystal clear Spectrum Noir sparkle shimmer, and Nuvo Jewel Drops with Enamel Accents here and there finish off this easy-peasy card.
Here's a close-up to try to show the shimmer....
I'll add this card to the Inspiration Challenge on Splitcoasterstampers  and the Allsorts Challenge (no patterned paper).

Thanks for visiting.  Hope you're staying comfy, cozy, and warm.  And safe!

Thanks for stopping by.  We are in a two-day January thaw (before the next arctic blast due tomorrow afternoon into the weekend).  So it's off to see the kiddo's.  We are celebrating our oldest granddaughter's 13th birthday....yikes!  She's a teenager.  How did that happen...seems like yesterday we were holding her and rocking her!

Hope you find time to do the things that bring you joy today!

Blessings,
