Penny Black Saturday Challenge - Something New

Hello, friends.  It's the first Saturday of the month, and that means it's time for a new challenge at Penny Black Saturday Challenge.  The theme is always Anything Goes, and this month's optional is Something New.
The stamp I used isn't new to the PB line, but it is new to me, so I went with it.

PB Stamps:
Various older stamps in background
Critter Party (older clear set)

How I made my card:
  • On desert sand card stock, I white embossed the Scented Beauty image.
  • I used finger sponge daubers to add distress inks in scattered straw and ripe persimmon to the flowers, and peeled paint and forest moss to the leaves.  I wiped off the embossing with a soft clean cloth.
  • For the background, I used the same daubers to carry some of the colors around the image, then stamped some older stamps faintly intermittently.
  • I stamped the happy birthday from the Critter Party set.
  • I distressed the edges with ripe persimmon distress ink, and added some pearl accents.
  • INSIDE:  I distressed the inside, then stamped a verse from the Faith Clear set, and added some background stamping.

Penny Black Christmas Poinsettia Card

Greetings, and happy Saturday.  Today is the midway point of the Penny Black Saturday Challenge.  The theme this month is Anything Goes, with optional Bingo.

For my card today, I chose a couple of much older Penny Black stamps from my stash.

With the holly swirl stamp, I colored the stamp with distress inks, and stamped it onto a cream card stock panel.  I repeated this inking and stamping all the way around the cardstock, creating a holly border

For the main image, I inked the poinsettia stamp, and stamped it onto a piece of vellum.  I added some spatters of distress ink, and the verse.

I attached the vellum to the holly panel with brads, and outlined the holly panel with my gold leafing pen.

I attached the panel to a red card front.

That's it.  I just love the Penny Black brush stamps.  They make it easy to create pretty cards that look watercolored.

Thanks so much for stopping by today.  I hope you will join us at the Penny Black Saturday Challenge.  We would love to see what you create!

Blessings,

Penny Black Fall Card

Hello, and welcome to my blog post today.
It's the first Saturday of the month, and that
means it's time for the
The theme this month is Bingo.  See this post for
details and to enter your card.

How I made my card:
  • I used my Misti to stamp the PB Allegro image onto bristol card stock.  I used fall colors of distress inks, adding the colors with mini ink pads to different areas of the image until it looked the way I wanted.

  • I used some PB older stamps to add interest to the background.
  • For the background color, I applied Faber Castell soft pastels with a cotton ball.
  • I cut with a stitched die cut, and layered it onto an A2 card front.
These PB stamps are all older ones from my stash.  I love the brush stamps, and have several of the oldies.

I hope you will join us for the Penny Black Saturday Challenge.  You never know, you just may win a prize!

Thanks for stopping in today.

Penny Black Saturday Challenge - Too Cute To Spook

Hello, and welcome!  Today I have an inspiration card for the Penny Black Saturday Challenge.  The challenge this month is 'Too Cute To Spook.'

The stamps I used are older, and I don't have links.  I don't even know if they are still available.

I do have a link to that fabulous cloud stencil, however.  It's new from A Colorful Life Designs.  This photo doesn't show it, but you get both the inside (positived) and outside (negative) of the stencil.  Here's the link -

This stencil creates amazing clouds. Unlike most cloud stencils, it has eight edges to choose from if you use the negative and positive part of the stencil.  I will never use another stencil for clouds, now that I have this!

Inside
I used bristol card stock, and stamped the kitty image, then masked the image and used distress ink with the stencil to brush on color, forming clouds.  I stamped the Trick or Treat long stamp faintly along the edge, and on the inside of the card.  I watercolored the image with distress inks, then stamped the Purr-fect halloween verse with black.
Inside:

That's it!  Easy Peasy.

Hope you will join us at the Penny Black Saturday Challenge for this fun theme.  Who knows, you just might win a prize!

Blessings,

Penny Black Saturday Challenge - Nature

Happy Saturday!  And happy Independence Day July 4th to all my American friends!   Today starts the new Penny Black Saturday Challenge.  The optional theme is Nature.  I chose to use birds on my card today.  I have been enjoying watching the birds in my backyard garden this summer, so I am inspired to use them on my nature card.
Penny Black stamps:

I stamped the birds on branch image,The Sweetest Sound,  onto watercolor paper in my Misti.  I used Arteza Real Brush Markers to 'ink' the image.  I added more blossoms to the branch with the markers.

I added some color to the background by brushing some color from the real brush markers onto a ceramic palette  then using a water brush to add some watered down color to the background.  I then added some images from some older PB stamps for background interest.

I used VersaFine Clair Nocturne ink to add the verse, from the Special Thoughts set.

Inside, I used the Gifts From Above set.  I thought this verse was inspiring for these times in which we are living.

I hope you are inspired to join us in the fun at the Penny Black Saturday Challenge this month.

Thanks so much for visiting today.  I appreciate you comments.

Blessings,

Penny Black Saturday Challenge May Challenge Card

It's time for the Penny Black Saturday Challenge.  The theme, as always, is Anything Goes.  The optional element this month is 'Inspired By A Song.'

My card was inspired by the song 'Be My Little Baby Bumblebee,' by Doris Day.
Penny Black stamps/stencil:
Fairy Love 30-530
Special Thoughts 30-338
Dotlets 25-007 (stencil)

I stamped the Fairy Love stamp onto a piece of bristol card stock, and colored her with Derwent Inktense watercolor pencils, and a water brush. I masked the image, and brushed distress inks over the background.  I used a die to cut the image.

For the background, on a white A2 card front,  I used distress ink through the dot stencil.  I layered the stamped panel onto the card front with craft foam for dimension.

I added the stamped verse from the Special Thoughts set.

I hope you are inspired to join us in this fun challenge.  Pick a song, and see how it inspires your card making.  Who knows, your entry just may win you a gift certificate to our sponsor, 1,2,3 Stitch!

Reverse Stenciled Background With Stamping

Hello!  Today is the mid-way point for the Penny Black Saturday Challenge for this month.  The theme is always Anything Goes.  This month's optional 'extra' is to use twine or ribbon.  Many of the designers have created some inspiration for you.  You can find details of the challenge, and the the other designer's blog posts and inspiration HERE
Here's my card...
Penny Black Stamps/Stencil:
First Blush 40-543
Special Thoughts 30-338
Leaf Frolic 25-019

I started with a piece of bristol paper.  Bristol paper is more fine than watercolor paper, yet it tolerates water better than regular card stock.

I laid my Leaf Frolic stencil onto a craft mat, and used my mini distress ink pads to dab color directly onto the stencil.  I used the colors shabby shutters, victorian velvet, and milled lavender.

To activate the ink, I used my fine water mister to mist the stencil.  The trick is to get the right amount of water.  You don't want it dripping off the stencil, but you want enough to create the background.  I sprayed until the stencil had water droplets all over.

I carefully picked the stencil off of the craft mat, then placed it color-side-down onto my piece of bristol paper.  I used an old (clean) towel to lightly press on the stencil.  I smoothed it out, and pressed for a bit.

When I removed the stencil, I took a clean portion of the towel, and wiped the excess moisture from the panel.  I love the look of this background.  It is distinct enough to use on it's own, but soft enough to stamp over!

I stamped the First Blush image onto the background panel with Memento Rich Cocoa ink, and painted it with distress reinkers.  I stamped the verse  from the Special Thoughts set, with the same ink.  I love this set for it's variety of verses, and the elegant fonts.   I distressed the edges of the panel, and wrapped some twine and a bow around it before attaching it to a white card with foam for dimension.

Inside, I brushed the same background colors through the stencil, and stamped a small part of the image and painted it.

That's it.  I hope you are inspired to join our challenge.  I would love to see your creations.  Let me know if you try this technique.  You just might win a prize, so come on over.  You can find details, inspiration, and can play along HERE.

I am adding my card to these other challenges:
Allsorts Challenge  - Flowers and/or showers
CAS Watercolor - Spring flowers
The Flower Challenge - Spring/autumn
Make My Monday - Spring flowers
Penny Black At Allsorts - Anything goes

Thanks for stopping by.  I appreciate your visits and your comments.

Thinking Of You Card For Penny Black Challenge

I have a card today for the Penny Black Saturday Challenge
I used Penny Black stamp 40-453 Passionate, along with the thinking of you verse from the Collage of Wishes set.

I stamped the Passionate image onto Strathmore Bristol vellum with distress inks, then use Polychromos colored pencils to bring out the details.

Some PB background stamps and ink blending created the background.

I stamped the verse from the Collage of Wishes set, then added some faint images with some older PB stamps in the background.  A spatter of ink and a silk ribbon and bow finish off the panel, which I attached to a green A2 card.

The theme of the Penny Black Saturday Challenge is always Anything Goes.  The optional extra this month is Ribbon and/or twine.  I hope you will join us, and maybe even win a prize!  Details are on the PBSC blog HERE.

Thank you for your visit to my blog today.  Stay well and healthy.  Prayers for our countries, and for our world!

Spring Card With Distress Oxides Background, Stencil, and Die

Happy Friday!  Today I have a card for the Penny Black Saturday Challenge.  This month we are celebrating spring, with a Think Spring optional theme.  If you do not have any spring-like Penny Black stamps, don't worry.  The theme every month is Anything Goes.  The Think Spring theme is optional, and since I cannot stop thinking about and hoping for spring soon, here is my very 'springy' card....

INSIDE
I used Penny Black stamps, die, and stencil to create my card today.  Many of these are older, and I do not have links to them, for which I apologize.  But, the idea is here, and you can use what stamps/dies etc. you have to create a similar effect.  I do have a link for the stamp used on the inside of the card.  It is from the Penny Black Gifts From Above set.  This is one of my all-time favorite PB stamp sets.

For the background, I rubbed distress oxide inks onto a piece of card stock, and spritzed with water.  I used a sponge applicator to create the streaks on the background.  I repeated adding color and running the sponge diagonally across the card stock panel, until I achieved my desired look.  When this was dry, I placed the floral stencil over the panel, and brushed pink distress ink through the stencil onto the background.

For the smaller background panel, I used an acrylic stamp block.  I added some distress inks from the ink pads onto the block, spritzed it, and tapped it onto a piece of watercolor paper.  I repeated until it looked finished.

I added both panels to a white A2 card front.  I cut the butterfly die from pink card stock, then traced it and fussy cut the shape, and placed it under the die cut.  I rubbed some pink distress ink onto the die cut butterfly to give it more definition.  I added this element to the card front over the background pieces.
I added the verse panel and three little pearls to finish the card front.

Be sure to check out the other designer's cards on the Penny Black Saturday Challenge blog.  We have had some very talented new designers join us, so please do stop by and say hello!

I am adding my card to these other challenges:
Make My Monday - In the pink
Penny Black At Allsorts - Spring flowers (on the background)
Simon Says Stamp Wed. Challenge - Something feminine
The Daily Marker 30 Day Color Challenge

I hope you like my card, and I hope you are inspired to enter our challenge this month.  You just might win a gift certificate to our sponsor, 1,2,3 Stitch!  Hope to see your entry soon!

Thanks so much for stopping by my blog today.  Enjoy your weekend!
