Watercolor Azalea Duo With New Paints

Hello friends!  I'm stopping in with a quick post to share a card I made using a new-to-me type of watercolor paint.
I used watercolor paper, and stamped the C.14651.Q Azalea image from Magenta.  This is a lovely stamp image, and I thought it would be a good subject on which to try my new paints.

I painted the image with these Boku-Undo E-Sumi Watercolor Palette - Shadow Black Mei - 6 Color Set watercolors I purchased from JetPens.    The colors in this set are unique.  The shades are not bold and bright, nor are they typical pastel shades.  Rather, they are somewhat muted or subdued, as you can typically only get by mixing colors.
I decided to paint the flowers in layers of glaze.  This is my first attempt at this, and my initial use of these paints.  I really love the way they blend and layer.  I used a mixture of the shadow purple and shadow green to create the grayish tones for the background.

I used Magenta images with distress inks for the background swirls, and for the verse.

I didn't like the stamens in black, so I went over the black with a white gel pen.  I wish I had left them be, as the pen didn't work well over the black ink, and I had to keep adding more, creating a bit of a smudgy look.  But, I am trying to let go of my perfectionist tendencies, and post it anyways.  Next time, I won't ink the stamens, rather I will draw them in with the gel pen afterwards.  Lesson learned.

I really enjoyed these paints, and I'm sure I will be reaching for them often.

Thanks so much for stopping by.

Impression Obsession June 2021 Die Cut Obsession

We have set aside today to share some fun themed projects

This month's theme is Birthday.
Have fun checking out what our Designers have made today.
Today's participants can be found on the Impression Obsession blog.

IO Stamps/Die links:

How I made my card:
  • From white card stock, I die cut the Birthday Words and Small Candle, and Pinked Stitched Sentiment Banner from the die cuts.
  • On a white A2 card front, I used a stencil to create the rectangle in the center, brushing distress ink through the stencil.
  • I used distress ink to brush color onto the candle flames and the Birthday Words.
  • I added the die cuts to the card front.
I just love these candles, and the birthday words dies!
Don't forget to check out the other participating designer's projects HERE.
You can find the entire June Release stamps HERE.

Thanks so much for stopping by today!

For my cards today, I used two of the new birthday clear stamp sets.

Card 1:
Birthday Queen WP1034

This was a fun card to make, and the stamps in the Birthday Queen set really made it easy to design.  Don't you just love the fonts on the verses?

I stamped the birthday girl image onto white card stock, and colored her with Polychromos colored pencils.  I trimmed the panel, and layered it onto a piece of silver card stock.

I added some strips of silver and white card stock to a pink A2 card front, then used foam tape to add the birthday girl panel.

I colored the crown, fussy cut it, and added it to the panel.  I stamped the verse, and layered it onto silver paper, then onto the card.

Some silver foil pearls finish the front.

Inside:  I stamped the cake image and verses, layered, and added to the inside.

Card 2:
Happy Birthday WP1033
Birthday Queen WP1034

I stamped the images from both sets, and added the a white A2 card.  I colored the images with Polychromos colored pencils.

I added the banner along the top of the card front, and a strip of black and white patterned paper (which I had colored with blue distress with a brush applicator).

Inside: I added more images from the sets, and the verse.

I hope you have enjoyed the IO Summer Release celebration. More inspiration from the design team is on the IO post HERE.   You can find all of the images from this release on the IO site HERE.

I have two more cards to share with you today.
Card One:

Hollyhocks CC408
In My Heart D13912
Hollyhocks DIE169-R
INSIDE

I used my Misti to stamp the Hollyhocks onto Canson bristol XL recycled paper.  I repeated stamping, using different shades of pinks and violets.  I removed the paper from the Misti, and used distress reinkers to paint the petals.  I added additional details with colored pencils.  I used blue distress ink for the background.

I die cut the Hollyhocks die, and painted them with the distress ink colors that I had used on the Hollyhocks.

I added the In My Heart verse on a strip of the same paper, using foam tape for extra dimension.

Card Two:
Flora & Fauna CL1025
Flower Bits CL1024

I stamped the images from both sets onto bristol card stock, and colored them with Polychromos colored pencils, then fussy-cut them out.
INSIDE

For the panel base, I used a happy birthday embossing plate from my stash.  I brushed some distress ink over it to help the words stand out a bit more.  I attached the panel to a green A2 card front.

I arranged and adhered the flowers and foliage to the card.  On the inside, I used the D20728 Special Day stamp.

I hope you like my cards.
I will be back tomorrow with more cards.  You can find links to the other designer's posts on the Impression Obsession blog HERE.

Impression-Obsession Old Is New - Double Cone Flower

Welcome to another Impression-Obsession Old Is New Day, where the IO artists are sharing a card using an older stamp.

I chose the Double Cone Flower stamp for my card today.  This flower is a little different, in that the outside is all solid.  That is the part that actually 'stamps.'  The image is etched in, with the petals, leaves, and other parts recessed into the rubber, which creates the open areas.

Stamps:

I inked the Double Cone Flower image with wild honey distress ink, using my Misti so that I could do repeat stamping, as the watercolor paper I stamped on had a lot of texture to it.

I used Caron D'Ache watercolor crayons to paint the background, and the petals and leaves.  I built the color up gradually on the background, getting variances in color for interest.

When dry, I used Polychromos colored pencils to add shading and details to the petals of the flowers and the leaves.  I used the Caran D'Ache crayons to add color to the French Text CAC stamp, then spritzed it with water and stamped it on the background.  (I had masked off the flowers before I did this step).

I layered this panel onto a white panel, then onto a mustard yellow panel, and finally onto a white card.  I stamped the 'Enjoy your special day' verse from the the Life Stuff Sentiments set onto the mustard piece.

Finally, on the image panel, I added a the Happy Birthday die from the DIE234-M die.

And for the inside:

I hope you like my card, and are enjoying this Designer Sale feature at the Impression-Obsession blog.  You can find projects by the other designers on the IO blog post HERE.

Thanks so much for stopping by today.  I enjoy your visits.  Have a great day!

Make A Wish

Hello...and welcome.  I'm stopping in with a quick post for the Penny Black Saturday Challenge blog.  The theme is 'anything goes' with optional 'Food and/or Drink.'

I used Penny Black stamps from the Critter Party 30-013 clear stamp set.  I watercolored the images with Derwent Inktense watercolor pencils.

I fussy-cut the balloon and added it, drawing a string to the little mouse's hand.

A little layering and a ribbon finish it off.

Inside:
Hope you're inspired by my card, and will join us at the Penny Black Saturday Challenge.  You just might win a gift certificate to 1,2,3 Stitch!  You can find details at the challenge blog HERE.

Have a great weekend!

Blessings,

Outta This World Birthday Wishes

Hello, and welcome!  I'm taking a break from my gardening to post a card for some challenges today.  It's getting breezy and cooler, and we are supposed to have thunderstorms, so I think they may be here shortly.  Great time to play in my art room!
Stamps (Impression-Obsession):
Outta This World Set CL959
Circle Frame 2 H12066

http://shrsl.com/1nk98I am loving this Outta This World clear stamp set!  It has so many fun elements, and really stamps beautifully.  Great for a kid's or male card, or just plain fun card.

For the background, I started with mixed media card stock, and used sponge daubers to add distress inks.  I then added water droplets to create the watermark areas.  Then flicked more water to get some smaller spots, and used a towel to pick up the water.  I love the way this creates those white watermark areas in the background.

When the panel was dry, I stamped the Circle Frame with Ranger Archival ink in cobalt.  I then stamped the verse with VersaFine Claire Nocturne ink.

I stamped the rocketship, watercolored it with distress inks, and fussy-cut it , adding it to the panel with foam tape for dimension.  I attached the whole shebang to a white A2 card front.

INSIDE

Inside:  Stamped the 'martian' and other elements, and colored with Copic markers.

I hope you like this cute little card.  I had fun creating with this adorable set.

I am adding my card to these challenges:
Allsorts Challenge - Fantasy world
Paper Funday Challenge - For the guys
Seize The Birthday - Anything goes
Pile It On  - Travel

Thanks for stopping by today.  I appreciate your visits and comments.

Impression-Obsession Summer Release Celebration Day 1

Welcome to Day One of the Impression Obsession
You will find a list of participants each day at 6 AM on the Impression Obsession Blog.
All of our design team blogs will have a
$25 gift certificate to give away for the event!
The more you comment through our
Release Celebration the more chances you have to win!
All comments for all of the event days will be open until Sunday, May 5th, at noon CT.
All winners will be announced Monday, May 6th.

You will find the new stamps HERE.  They are available now in the Impression-Obsession store.

For my card today, I used three of the fabulous new floral letters.

Impression-Obsession stamps:
Floral Y D12062
Floral O D12052
Floral U D12058
Life Stuff Sentiments CL491 (Celebrating)
Happy Birthday 1  C14778 (inside)
Square Vine Frame F12070 (inside)

On bristol vellum card stock, I stamped the Floral Letters to form 'YOU.'  I used my Misti to help with placement and alignment.  I water colored the letters with Arteza Real Brush Markers, using a water brush, to get the faded look on the insides of the letters.  I love the vivid colors in these markers, and that combined with water, I can achieve many different depths of color and highlighting.

I painted a white scrap with the same pink, and when dry, I stamped the word 'Celebrate' from part of one of the stamps in the Life Stuff Sentiments set, and lined it with striped pp, then added it above the YOU with foam tape.  This set has sentiments for many occasions, and I find myself reaching for it often.

I cut a little off the stamped panel, and added it to a pink A2 card front.  I added a narrow strip of the same striped pp to the bottom.  Some clear sequins finish the front pf my card.

For the inside, I used the Happy Birthday 1 stamp, with one side of the Square Vine Frame, along with a strip of the pp and sequins.

I hope you are inspired by my card.  There are so many fabulous new stamps in this release.  Be sure to check them out at the Impression-Obsession store HERE.

I am adding my card to these challenges:
Allsorts Challenge - Feminine
Simon Says Wednesday - Anything goes
Watercooler Wednesday - All About Occasions
