Thank You Purple Posies

I really love these trumpet flowers.  I decided to try them in purple, for a spring card for my Penny Black Saturday Challenge  DT card for the April challenge.   The stamp is Penny Black's Trumpet Song 40-377, and the thank you is from the PB salutations 30-014 set. 

I inked my flower image with distress ink in antique linen, using my Misti.  I then used Tombow markers to do my 'watercoloring.'  I added the light lavendar to the flowers to see where the details were, then went back in with darker shades of purples to bring out the shadows and shapes.  I did the same with the leaves.  When finished, I went in with some dark colored pencils to add final shadows, and a touch of white to bring out highlights.

I brushed antique linen around the edges with my Clarity brush, and stamped parts of the PB paisley swirls 40-011 stamp intermittently.  

I used a Die-namics stitched rectangle die to cut out the panel, then mounted it onto cardstock and an A2 card.  

I added the thank you on vellum, using a Spellbinder's die, and some Simon Says Stamp assorted moonshine sequins.

Christmas Trees!

I have a couple of more Christmas cards using the Technique Junkies Christmas Trees Set of 6  and the Gifts of Christmas Set of 5. 

For this card, I created the background on watercolor paper, using Tim Holtz distress inks.  I taped down the paper, then wet it all over with a mop brush and lots of water.  Then I dropped in blues, purples, and green inks and let it interact with each other and with the water. 

When the background was dry, I cut it to size, and embossed the trees using Judi Kins Black Opal embossing powder.  This powder has lots of sparkles of fiery colors in with the black that look amazing in real life.  I tried to capture it here...

For the strip along the top, I embossed a piece of card stock and cut it and layered it onto the card.  I embossed the verse in regular black embossing powder.  I added some dots with an embossing marker, and drew a star, then added silver embossing powder in the sky.

For my second card, I used Tim Holtz distress oxide inks to create the background, then embossed the trees in black embossing powder. The stars are from a sheet of sticker Peel-Offs.  I die cut the pieces using a Spellbinders die, and created the banners for the Merry Christmas from the left over pieces of the panel I had created for the background.

Altenew Inspiration Challenge Card

The photo for the inspiration challenge this month at Altenew is lovely....
 
I love the colors, and the way Erum embossed and colored those flowers!   

Here is my take on the challenge....

I created the background by rubbing Tim Holtz inks onto my craft mat, adding water, and dabbing the inks onto watercolor paper.  I repeated this with a few different colors, and dried them in between layers.  I added some gold from my Fine Tec gold palette of watercolor pigments.  Here is a close up of the background.  I tried to capture the way the gold pigments shimmer on the background, but it's difficult to capture with a photo.....

The flowers are from Altenew's Hibiscus Bouquet set.  I embossed them in gold, and watercolored them with FinTec gold pigments.  Then I fussy-cut them and added them to the die-cut oval panel from the background I had created.  I mounted this onto the wood panel (Altenew) stamped background.  The Love die is by Spellbinders.

Bouquet of Good Wishes Card

A quick post today, as we are heading off to help my cousin celebrate at her retirement party.  I had fun stamping these petunias from Penny Black....

 I used Penny Black's Trumpet Song 40-377, inking the stamp with Tim Holtz distress inks and stamping it on watercolor paper.  I used my Misti so that I could do layers of inking and stamping.  

The background is done with distress inks in a wash, and Penny Black's script background stamp, intermittently stamped.
The verse is from Penny Black's Gratitude set 30-105.  

Dies are Our Daily Bread's double stitched rectangles.

Casual Fridays Stamps Challenge Card

When I saw this stamp set by Casual Fridays Stamps, I simply had to have it.  I love that Treble Clef, and the verses in the set are perfect.  
My card today is for the Cas-ual Fridays Stamps Card Challenge.  

The stamp set I used is called Big Treble, and the die is also from Cas-ual Fridays Fri-Dies.  I love when a die coordinates with a stamp set...it just expands the possibilities!

For my card, I used a white card stock panel, and with my Clarity stencil brush, I softly added some Tim Holtz distress ink in abandoned coral, starting fairly dark, and fading softly to white at the bottom.  I stamped that amazing verse on it with the same ink.  The verse is actually one stamp, I just inked the top part, stamped it, cleaned off the stamp, then stamped the bottom part.  

For the treble clef and hearts, I used the Big Treble die.  I used the same die to cut the extra hearts, just using that part of the die.  

A little crystal clear sparkle from my Spectrum Noir sparkle brush, and some Pretty Pink Posh droplets finish the card.

The challenge is to use coral, aqua, and gray.  I may not have tried these colors together were it not for this challenge, but I love how they complement each other.  I like the way they work together.

Embossed Magnolia Card With ColorBox Inks

Last night, all cozy and snuggled in my bed, I had a thought.  An epiphany, really.  I had been watching You Tube videos, and noticed that there is a resurgence of interest in ColorBox pigment inks.  People are using them to paint with, create backgrounds with, even stamp with.  I wanted to get out of bed and start playing with my pigment inks, but was just too tired.  So, after church today, I saw this Penny Black stamp on my desk, and thought I would see if I could do what I had envisioned last night in my epiphany. 

Since pigment inks are perfecty for embossing, I knew I wanted to emboss, but wasn't sure how it would look with this stamp.  So, I played, a lot.  After a few practice pieces, I decided to go for it and make a card.

I created the background onto a piece of pink card stock by brushing some distress ink abandoned coral and worn lipstick onto the pink panel, concentrating color at the bottom, and fading it as I moved up the card.  I used my Clarity brush to apply the ink.

Next, using the same colors of distress ink, I stamped the Penny Black Letter Background 1999L and Swirl Border 1969B intermittently onto the panel.  I dried this with my heat tool before moving on to the next step.

For the image, I used the Penny Black stamp The Unfolding 40-450.  I love, love, love this stamp!  I placed the stamp and panel into my Misty, and inked the petals with ColorBox cat's eye shaped pigment inks in coral, pink, rose coral, chianti, and merlot.  I inked the entire petals with the lighter colors, directly from the ink pads.  I wiped off the areas where I wanted the deeper colors with a Q-tip, and used the edge of the ink pad to apply the darker colors to the areas I wanted it darker.  I brushed some of the deeper color further into the petal, using very light pressure, to create a blended look.  I did the same for the stems and leaves, using moss green, olive, and chestnut inks.  I was going for a watercolor look, but using only pigment inks directly onto the stamp.

Since pigment ink does not dry quickly, I had time to create my scene and get all the stamping done before embossing.  Then I embossed it with clear embossing powder.  I wish you could see this in real life....the embossed shine and dimension really creates a dramatic look.  I had some pieces from my practice session, so I fussy-cut one of the flowers and buds and attached it at the top right of the panel with foam tape.

I added some spatters by adding water to some of the pigment inks that I had rubbed onto my craft mat, and flicked it off a paint brush, and added the stamens with a fine tip Sharpie marker. 

Here is a close-up so you can see the shine from the embossing, which really does not show up in the picture....

The color is a little more true in this picture than the first one.
