Bouquet of Prayers

Hello lovely peeps!  I hope you're having a lovely day and evening.  It was rainy here today, but mild.  So, after some morning chores and errands, I retreated to my craft room.  I did some much needed straightening in here before I could play.  Sometimes ya just gotta do that!

After everything was nice and tidy, I played with my new Daniel Smith watercolors.  This was my first attempt at using 'real' watercolors - from the tube and not in cake form.  I'm really liking them, but need lots of practice.
I used Simon Says Stamp Bouquet of Thanks set, along with SSS Prayers stamp set and die.  I watercolored the flowers, then fussy-cut them.  I layered a white A2 card with some black and white striped patterned paper, and a strip of coral card stock, then added the cut flowers.
I cut the prayer die on coral card stock, and added that with clear foam tape for dimension.  Then embossed the phrase onto a scrap of white card stock, and added that with foam tape.

Some Studio Katia sparkling crystals add the finishing touch.

I am adding my card to these challenges today:

Create For Yourself

Today is day 20 of the 30 Day Color Challenge at The Daily Marker.    I decided to have a play with a couple of new Magenta stamps I recently purchased.  I'm really loving this verse, and, of course, leaves always make me happy!

To make my card today, I used Magenta stamps.  The package does not have a stamp name.  The numbers on the back are CO7948-I (verse) and CO693-L (leaf branch).

I used smooth bristol paper and my Misti to stamp the branch.  I placed the paper into the Misti, then colored the leaves in layers, starting with the lightest color and moving onto each darker color.  I used Arteza real brush pens for this.  I did spritz the stamp a couple of times to get a more painterly look.  I repeated this process in the upper left corner with a portion of the stamp.
Next, I used Tim Holtz distress inks in crushed olive and tumbled glass to create my background, with my ink applicator tool.  I added some walnut stain distress ink alomng the edges.  The verse was stamped with Ranger's potting soil Archival Ink.

A little gold twine and some gold brads, then mounted onto a brown card on which I had added a bit of maruyama (Magenta, from my stash of years ago).  I have been hoarding this, as I LOVE it.  But, alas, it needs to come out of hiding to make someone else happy!

I am adding my card to the 30 Day Color Challenge at The Daily Marker.
I am also adding it to:

Roses Just For You

It was a steamy day here today.  A good day to be in my craft room with my fans!  I made a card for the Power Poppy June Power & Spark ChallengeThe theme is 'round and round,' so I made a round card.  I used a digital Power Poppy stamp, Everything Rosy.   The verse is from the Power Poppy stamp set Dahlia XL.

I colored my images with Copic markers.  Added some distress ink along the edges.

I am also adding this to the Power Poppy Hues To Use Challenge.
And The Daily Marker 30 Day Color Challenge.

Gratitude Is The Heart's Memory

Today's card is one of those that, as I was making it, I thought, ehhh.  You know, one of those that could go either way early on.  But, I persisted....

I really liked the background, which I created by sponging on TH distress ink abandoned coral, then dropping splashes of water onto it and dabbing them dry.  Then a few spatters of the abandoned coral, and some white acrylic paint spatters.   Here's a close-up of the background detail....excuse the poor lighting on this photo...
I added the leaf (Penny Black Leaf Spray 2026H), and that's when the 'ehhh' hit.  So, I added the verse (Penny Black Gratitude 30-105).  Better, I thought.  But still needed something.

So, when in doubt, grab a die.  I used Penny Black's Dots and Swirls die to create the dotted strip along the bottom of the card.  A narrow strip of black and white striped patterned paper, with the layering, brought my card into the 'keeper' category.

Hope I've inspired you to keep going when you feel you aren't liking the card you're working on.  Sometimes just a little tweaking, a different slant, some patterned paper, or a fabulous background technique can rescue your card.

Stop on over at the Penny Black Saturday Challenge mid-way inspiration post for some ideas from my fellow design team members.  You have until July 6th to enter for a chance to win a $20 voucher from 1,2,3 Stitch!

Hope to see you there.

Summer At The Old Pier

Ahhhh....summer!  What's better than a beach in the summer time?   Doesn't this scene look inviting?  I can almost feel the warmth and hear the seagulls!

The stamps are from Technique Junkies:

I used my Misti to make this card. I inked it up with different colors of Distress ink minis, gave it a little spritz, then stamped it. I used my watercolor brush to move the color around, and added the sun and clouds. I repeated inking and stamping until I achieved the desired look. I used distress markers on the posts.

Get 10% off your order at Technique Junkies with my code TJ10Lynda at checkout.
I made this card for the Dirty Dozen Design Team for Splitcoaststampers back in December.  We could only post in the Fan Club on SCS, and could not post anywhere else for six months.  So, now it's time I can post it on my blog.

That's it!  I hope you are enjoying your spring.  It's a busy time now with school winding down, and graduations, weddings, etc.  Soon, summer will be here, and hopefully we can all find some rest at the beach, or in our own favorite spot.

Thanks for stopping by.  I appreciate your comments.

Terrific Guy Card

I played with my Cas-ual Fridays stamps today, and made a masculine card for the current challenge.
For my card, I used Cas-ual Fridays Stamps from the Pretty Posies set.

On watercolor paper, I taped off the diagonal with painter's tape, and rubbed Lyra Aquacolor crayons along the bottom portion, then used a wet brush to create watercolor.

I removed the tape, and drew lines and nails with an Arteza fine liner pen to create board slats, like a floor.

I stamped the leaves by misting the stamp with water, then rubbing color directly from Lyra Aquacolor watercolor crayons onto the stamp.

Then I spritzed it again, and stamped it onto the card above the tape.  I repeated this process until I was happy with the arrangement, then added some speckles by flicking color from the wet crayon with my brush.

I added a die-cut stitched circle with foam tape for dimension, and adhered some additional leaves I had colored with the Lyra aquacolor crayons.  I created one more 'board' with watercolor paper, and stamped you are terrific onto it, and added them to the circle.  I layered the whole shebang onto a rust colored A2 card base.

I am adding my card to these challenges:

Cas-ual Fridays Challenge - Boys of summer (masculine)
 Tuesday Morning Sketches - sketch...
