Day To Celebrate With Penny Black Stamp

When I saw this stamp by Penny Black, of course I thought about winter and Christmas.  However, I do enjoy the challenge of finding other ways to use seasonal stamps.  Today, I decided to take this stamp into the fall season by using the colors of autumn.....
I colored the berry branch with Tombow markers in stages, starting with yellow, then gradually built up the shading and colors one by one, by using my Misti tool.  I had seen this technique on a UTube video by Jill Foster.   If you would like to see how Jill uses the Misti to create lovely layers of color and detail, click for the link  HERE
I created the card panel on watercolor paper by spattering some scattered straw distress ink onto the paper.  Then I used my Clarity brush to soften the edges with the same ink.  I attached it to an A2 size card.

Next, I used my distress inks in fall colors, and applied the inks onto another piece of watercolor paper with my Tim Holtz ink applicators.  When I had the colors nice and deep, I dropped water in areas, then dabbed it up with paper towels.  This creates the light areas where the ink lifts from the background in the areas that the water drops were.  I cut a strip and attached it to my card front, then used some fine gold cording on each side of the strip.

The gold scroll was die cut from watercolor paper using Penny Black die 'scrolls' 51-013.  I applied gold embossing to it to compliment the cording, and the verse I knew was going to emboss in gold.

I die cut the berries with a Spellbinders circle die, then used the Clarity brush and ink to soften the edges, then layered it onto a slightly larger gold paper die.  I used craft foam to give it dimension, and adhered it to my card.

The verse is from Penny Black 'gratitude' 30-105 clear stamp set.  I embossed it in gold onto vellum, then attached it to the die cut panel.  Finally, I punched some circles with my Cropodile, used a foam base and an embossing stylus to 'cup' them, and attached them to the card with Ranger Matte Medium.

I am adding my card to these challenges......

I really had fun creating in my craft room today.  The weather was delightful, and I had my windows open, enjoying the fresh air while I played.  This was a fun card to make.  Thanks to Jill Foster for showing this technique, which is becoming one of my favorite techniques.  I will be using it a lot, for sure.

Do you have any stamps for which you can 'change-up' their intended use?  Challenge yourself to find other ways to use them other than their intended way.

Thanks so much for stopping by today.  See you next time.  Until then, happy stamping!

Blessings,

lynda
