I had so much fun making this card with these cute little monster critters.  What a fun set!

I used pp for my card and background panel.  I colored the 'monster' with Arteza Real Brush Markers.  I love these for their vivid colors and fine points.  And they blend beautifully.  

I fussy-cut my little monster, and added it to my card front.

What We Do Best Challenge - Technique Junkies, Day 6

What a wonderful response we have seen for this challenge!  Awesome participation!  For those who are just tuning in, Technique Junkies is sponsoring the WWDB (What We Do Best) Challenge for these four weeks.  Today is day 6.  You can win one of four $50 gift certificates to the TJ store by making and posting your card/s.  Make a card featuring a thank you for our first responders, hospital workers, grocery clerks, delivery people, etc.  You can play any day, or all of the days, or however many you want.  The more you play, the better chances of winning.  Full details with all you need to know are on Pat's blog post HERE.  And here is my card and envelope...

I know that when we think of first responders and other heroes, we do not ordinarily think of moms.  But I think that moms do deserve a round of applause for their job during this pandemic.  They are home 24/7 with the children.  

Some have been stay-at-home moms, now dealing with the extra pressure of home schooling, some are moms that are juggling working from home with child care, some are full-time working moms, out of work, and some are raising their children while caring for elder parents or relatives.  And some are moms of moms, missing their 'kids' and grandchildren, trying to support them from afar.  

Whatever the case, these amazing women are holding their families together during this crisis.  The stress is real, the days are long and exhausting.  Kids are edgy, frightened, and many are acting out.  It's tiring.  Yet, they get through it.

So, that is why I made this card today.  I am a mom of a mom.  I miss my daughter and familuy terribly (they live about 1 1/2 hours away), and I miss my granddaughters so very much.  I want to hold them.  We do FaceTime, and texts and calls, but I need to hug them!  We can't even go there, or them here, to visit in the back yard on nice days.  It's a long drive, and we can't go into the house, and there is nothing open where we can go if we need to use the bathroom. 

Anyways, I thought I'd bring some levity to the challenge with this fabulous stamp and background!

I love this background, and have used it often.  Who hasn't heard most or all of these one liners when they were growing up?  And, I'll bet there are many of us who have said them!

I stamped the Because I Said So background onto a white panel, and distressed it with tea dye distress ink, then added it to a green panel, then onto an A2 card front.  

I stamped the Happy Housewife image onto white cs, and colored it with Faber Castell Pitt Pastel Pencils.  I love pastels for coloring images, and use them often.  I often get the question of how to 'set' the colors so it doesn't brush off when someone touches it.  I use a fixative (outdoors), or when it's too cold or windy, rainy to go outdoors, I use hair spray.  I spray about three coats, very fine coats, letting it dry between coats.  Then I fussy-cut the image, and attached it to the card.

I didn't have the right size and verse stamp for the Thank you, Mom, so I typed it and printed it in brown, distressed it, and added it with foam tape.

French Bunny Thank You Card

Hello, happy Tuesday!  Just stopping in with a little card for the Technique Junkies WWDB What We Do Best Challenge.  This is day five of the challenge.  See Pat's post HERE for full details of the challenge.

Don't you just love, love, love this sweet little bunny?!  I do!  He's just so adorable.

For my card, I inked Little Bunny with distress ink in my Misti.  I used a finger dauber to add different distress ink colors to him, and restamped often to bring back the detail.  

When I was finished, I took the panel from the Misti, and added details with colored pencils.  I created a mask for the bunny, and stamped the Paris Postmarks background stamp, using bundled sage distress ink. 
I attached the panel to a green panel, then to a cream A2 card front.

I stamped the Merci from the French Sentiments set twice.  Once with brown, then shifted it ever so slightly and then stamped it again with the green.  Then I layered, and added it to the card front.  I used a craft knife to cut the ear a bit, and tucked the verse underneath.

The inside verse is also from the French Sentiments set.

WWDB Technique Junkies Challenge - Day Four

I'm back today with another card for the Technique Junkies WWDB (What We Do Best) Challenge, designed to honor those workers on the front lines of the Corona Virus Panemic.  This week's theme is to thank a nurse, doctor, first responder, store clerk, delivery people, law enforcement, etc.  We also need to decorate the envelope.  The idea is to make a card, but also to send a card!  
 
Here's my card and envy today.

Technique Junkies stamps:

I created the card with a soft blue/green card stock, and used bleach to 'ink' my French Text stamp, then stamped it onto the card front.  I used a sponge applicator tool to apply the bleach (which I had poured onto a saucer).  
I dipped the sponge tip into the bleach (just a wee bit of bleach, enough to show a little puddle on the saucer).
Then I dabbed it onto the stamp, and held it on the card front for about 20 seconds.  When it dried, I had white letters!

I cut another piece of the card stock, and used it as an elevated panel, then stamped the Vintage Lighthouse onto another scrap piece. 

I colored this with colored pencils, then brushed some distress inks on it for the sky and water reflection.  I had masked the lighthouse before doing this.

I used a die to cut the tag, then added it to the panel.  I also added a die cut Thanks so much verse.

Inside, I stamped the Always Hope verse on another piece of the bleached card stock, distressed the edges, and added it to the inside of the card.

You Are Extraordinary CAS Card

Hello peeps.  Just popping in with a quick CAS card for the Technique Junkies WWDB challenge.  I talked about this challenge in my post yesterday, and you can find details on the Technique Junkies blog HERE.

 The challenge is to make a card and envelope to to thank and send to someone on the front lines of the Corona virus pandemic.  I thought I would go with a little levity today, to bring someone a smile.

I stamped the images with Arteza real brush markers, and brushed some distress ink along the edges.  I kept my card very CAS, which is very unusual for me, and very difficult.  As many of you know, I love to layer and color, but I can rise to the occasion of a CAS card when I need to.

I am also adding my card to the AAA Cards CAS Challenge.   The theme is a sketch, with optional theme of 'it flies.'  Hence, the chicken!

Reverse Stenciled Background With Stamping

Hello!  Today is the mid-way point for the Penny Black Saturday Challenge for this month.  The theme is always Anything Goes.  This month's optional 'extra' is to use twine or ribbon.  Many of the designers have created some inspiration for you.  You can find details of the challenge, and the the other designer's blog posts and inspiration HERE.  
Here's my card...

I started with a piece of bristol paper.  Bristol paper is more fine than watercolor paper, yet it tolerates water better than regular card stock.

I laid my Leaf Frolic stencil onto a craft mat, and used my mini distress ink pads to dab color directly onto the stencil.  I used the colors shabby shutters, victorian velvet, and milled lavender.  

To activate the ink, I used my fine water mister to mist the stencil.  The trick is to get the right amount of water.  You don't want it dripping off the stencil, but you want enough to create the background.  I sprayed until the stencil had water droplets all over.  

I carefully picked the stencil off of the craft mat, then placed it color-side-down onto my piece of bristol paper.  I used an old (clean) towel to lightly press on the stencil.  I smoothed it out, and pressed for a bit.  

When I removed the stencil, I took a clean portion of the towel, and wiped the excess moisture from the panel.  I love the look of this background.  It is distinct enough to use on it's own, but soft enough to stamp over! 

I stamped the First Blush image onto the background panel with Memento Rich Cocoa ink, and painted it with distress reinkers.  I stamped the verse  from the Special Thoughts set, with the same ink.  I love this set for it's variety of verses, and the elegant fonts.   I distressed the edges of the panel, and wrapped some twine and a bow around it before attaching it to a white card with foam for dimension.

Inside, I brushed the same background colors through the stencil, and stamped a small part of the image and painted it.

Technique Junkies WWDB Challenge

Have you heard about the Technique Junkies new challenge, WWDB (What We Do Best)?   We are giving away $50 gift certificates in each of four weeks.

Week One:  4/17 - 4/23:  Thank you card:
Thank a nurse, doctor, police officer, first respondor, mail person, store clerk, or other essential worker.  The card does not need to use the words 'thank you,' but the spirit of the challenge should be there.  Entries MUST include a decorated envelope.  We don't just want to make cards, we want to send them.
You can make one or more cards, with decorated envelopes, using Technique Junkies stamps with the weekly theme.  Then post them to the TJ FaceBook Group, or email them to Pat, the owner of Technique Junkies.

Each week, one of the challenge cards will be selected RANDOMLY, and will win a $50 gift certificate to the Technique Junkies store.  So, what are you waiting for?  Let's get stamping!

Now, for details of my card.

I stamped the Carved Relief image onto a gray card front, and onto a panel of watercolor paper.  On the watercolor paper, I stamped off two or three times, so that the image would be faint.  
 
Next, I stamped the Sketched Tulip using my Misti.  I used distress ink mini cubes to ink the image, and stamped it.  

Then I used a paint brush to add more of the ink colors from a palette of distress reinkers.  I went back and forth between stamping and painting until I achieved my desired outcome.

I stamped the ATC Thank You image, inking only part of the image, and added some black pearls, and outlined the panel with black.  
I attached the panel to the card front, and added a red twine bow.  I actually used a red permanent ink pad to die the twine red.

I did a little stamping inside, to carry the theme inward.  The You are extraordinary verse is straight.  When I put it on the block, I curved it.
